report detailing Forest City’s activities and progress between January 2015 and December 2015. This report is published in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) G4 Core option guidelines. Report data covers Forest City’s owned and operated properties in the United States, unless otherwise noted.

Professional training and development
Our Core Value of Sustainability and Stewardship calls on us to invest in the growth, development and well-being of our associates. This helps our associates reach their full potential, while also ensuring that we are able to attract and retain exceptional associates.
Forest City’s performance planning process encourages associates and their managers to have performance-related conversations throughout the year, and the company’s performance management tool and process ensures associates receive feedback on performance in relation to their manager’s expectations.
Our Core Value of Integrity & Openness calls on each of our associates to uphold the highest possible standards of ethical behavior, characterized by openness, candor, and honesty.
Each year, all associates are required to read and acknowledge our Code of Legal and Ethical Conduct, which covers the following topics: shared responsibility, customer and supplier relations, confidential information, conflicts of interest, gifts and bribes, political contributions, control and use of assets, record keeping, corporate opportunities and fair dealing, travel and entertainment, lobbying, reporting of potentially dangerous conditions, discrimination and harassment, indirect activities, competitors, interpretation of code, compliance with code and law, violations of code or law, investigations, reporting and financial Matters.
To ensure that all associates read, understand and acknowledge the code every year, Forest City’s Human Resources, Legal and Communications teams have implemented an educational program, which also helps associates interpret the policies and apply them to situations associates may encounter in the workplace.
Exposure to bribery and corruption
Our Code of Legal and Ethical Conduct provides clear guidelines around bribery and corruption and has mechanisms in place for associates to submit their questions or possible concerns.
Our policy dictates that no bribe, kickback or other improper payment or promise of same shall be authorized, approved or made, directly or indirectly, by or on behalf of Forest City in connection with its business.
In addition, Forest City associates and their family members must not offer, give, or accept a cash gift under any circumstances. This strict policy is also includes stringent guidelines around the offering or acceptance of non-cash or in-kind gifts or entertainment, which provides that such gifts or entertainment must be infrequent, consistent with customary business practices, does not create the appearance of preferential treatment, among others.
Forest City maintains a call-in service that may be used 24 hours a day to anonymously report behaviors or activities suspect associates suspect may violate Forest City’s policies or practices, or federal, state, or local regulations. The hotline provider forwards all reports to the offices of the General Counsel and Human Resources. Forest City investigates each report as quickly as reasonably possible and will take appropriate action. Behaviors or activities that must be reported include, but are not limited to: conflict of interest; fraudulent transactions; health/safety laws; thefts, bribes, kickbacks; environmental laws; harassment/discrimination; potential criminal violations; and disclosure of confidential information.
